Me Hi I am George A bit about me who I am! Born 1942 in Glasshoughton Castleford of George -&- Sarah Thornton. Brothers, Frank, Ken (now deceased ), Sister Jean second name now Sammon. After leaving a secondary modern school in Castleford I went into the coalmines, Wheldale Colliery. Working there until I joined the Army at 18. I managed 3 years and 1 month, in the Duke of Wellington Regiment. I was a Regimental Signaller. Going aboard twice. To Kenya and what at that time was called British Honduras, now Belize. Getting a purchase discharge, in 1962. I got married in that year, to Joyce Rollinson Of Airedale Castleford. Had two children Graham -&- Jane. The marriage lasted 12 years. And then we split up. My son Graham was born that year. We got a little old house down the lane in Castleford. And I started to work at the Coke Ovens in Glasshoughton. But finished up going back into the pits. After trying out the building trade. With out much success. Building the chimneys at Ferry Bridge. We lived there for 3 years. Bringing Jane into the world. Then moved to a new house in Ferry Fryston when she was one year old. Moving from there, higher up in Ferry Fryston, nearer to Airedale. After the marriage broke down. I packed up and went to live down Lancashire. Doing private contracting work, at Bold Colliery. Living in Ashton-in-Makerfield. Just out side the racecourse at Haydock Park But when I used to come back to Yorkshire. And stay at my brothers house. I met a girl named Sheila. And we lived together for 10 years. After this split, I moved to Wakefield. Living in a bed-sit. I started to go around with some one else who had split up (Black Fred). We used to go to places they called grab a granny nights. This is where I was introduced to Nancy Long. And we have been together since. Living at first in her house that she owned. But had to sell it because, her deceased husband had not insured it. So she was given a council house in Kettlethorpe, Wakefield. And I moved with her, after packing up my bed-sit. We lived there up to this year 2001. When we moved to the place where we are now, Havercroft Wakefield. Nancys original home. She was born here. . |
